Final REACH late pre-registration deadline approaching

16 November 2016

The third and final registration deadline of the 31st May 2018 for existing chemicals manufactured or imported at lower volumes is fast approaching. ECHA are reminding companies that wish to take advantage of this extended registration deadline that they must pre-register by the 31st May 2017 at the latest.

If your company has recently started manufacturing or importing a non-CMR (carcinogenic, mutagenic or reproductive toxicity), phase-in substance in the range of 1-100 tpa, you can pre-register within six months of commencing this activity. However, the last possible date to do this is the 31st May 2017. Pre-registration allows companies to continue supplying their chemicals at less than 100 tpa quantity legally on the EU/EEA market until the registration deadline.

If you do not have a valid pre-registration or registration for your substances after the 31st May 2017, you will be required to submit an inquiry to ECHA and register your substance before you can manufacture or import them. This is the same process you must complete now for substances which are classified as a CMR and the same process that will be required for all substances not yet registered after the May 2018 deadline.
