ECHA announce a series of REACH compliance checks

As part of an EU-wide enforcement project, dedicated inspectors will be working along with custom authorities to check the compliance of importers and manufacturers who have REACH registration obligations.

The inspections are part of the seventh coordinated REACH enforcement project and involves all 31 EU and EEA countries. The aim of the project it to ensure EU-wide enforcement of the obligations of manufacturers and importers to register their substances now that the final registration deadline has passed. The checks will cover all tonnage bands; however, the main focus will be on substances are manufactured/imported in volumes of 1-100tpa. The inspections will include checks of the registration dossier and checks that other duties and obligations related to registration are being observed.

Inspectors will check and verify if substances registered as intermediates met the definition of an intermediate and that they are manufactured and used within strictly controlled conditions. Also, substances registered as monomers in polymers will be checked.

 The enforcement project will continue throughout 2019 and a report is expected in the final quarter of 2020.
